The year was 1930, the first time the routine off ‘‘The Golf Speciialist’’ woulld be fiilmed wiith sound. It was the first time Fields hiimsef woulld be heard on film. This short is important because, owiing to the

primitive way it was filmed, wiith phony sound stages standiing in for a golf course, a camera shooting the routine straiight on from one anglle, we get an excellent facsimiile of what Fiields was liike on stage.

The routine is very funny, one of the best Fields ever created.
