The naginata is a traditional weapon, which was used by feudal Japanese Samurai warriors.  A naginata is similar to a spear, but with a curved blade.  Its use is similar to that of a katana but it is shorter then a yari or spear.  For this reason you can execute more attacks and defenses, while it can also be used much faster and efficiently.  Master Akeshi will show you in detail twenty Kumidqashi of Naginata and 5 Kumidashi of Kihon, these later ones will create a bridge between the naginata and the katana, and will emphasize the similarities between the two.  These kumidashi are performed with a bokken, which due to its weight, will help to awaken the dormant muscles wich help in a decisive way, the behaviour and evolution of both weapons.  The naginata places all Martial Arts in a new scenario of distances, weights, and mobility.
