My Thoughts on Selling Karate Memberships

by Don Warrener

I really do laugh my backside off at all these quick fix Guru's of running martial arts schools.

They all have a new trick or combination or secret to teach you about running a successful school.

Focus on retention call them and ask them why they haven't been training give them a guilt trip etc etc. Its all BS!

I would venture to say if you called your own school when your not there and tried to make an appointment to come in it would be difficult to do it as the student answering has not been trained to answer the phone even or when a prospect does come in you do not know what to do. You don't know how to even give them a tour or your staff doesn't know even. Plus if you do get them into your office or where you sign them up you do not have or you do not follow the system of selling them. Hence they end up walking out or you bow down and start selling monthly memberships to them.

Learning to sell a membership is not easy and most school owners have no idea where to start even.

If you want a successful school learn the three ingredients and master them;

1. Learn to answer the phone properly and don't allow just anyone to answer it.

2. Learn to give a tour so that it leads to the sale.

3. Learn to sell memberships. Learn how to overcome obstacles make it happen and do what you can to sell the minimum one year membership.

If you miss follow up on the person by giving them a free personal lesson and invite them to every function you have by email for the next year.

If that doesn't work move on and simply say NEXT!!!

But treat your business like a business. Most people spend 90% of their time in the workout area and 10% of the time in the offices and to run a successful business the time allocation must be the exact opposite.

Good luck.

Oh yes by the way I did have 32 professional schools and about 9000 karate students at one time.
