Judo Masters Saved From Extinction

Thank God for Hal Sharp. He is the man that Judoka around the world all owe a great deal of gratitude to as it is he that has saved names like Kotani, Mifune, Ishikawa, Sato, Daigo, Fokuda and so many more from being lost to the annals of time.

Sharp, who was a Body Guard to the Emperor of Japan at the end of WWII was enthralled by the Japanese culture and especially the martial arts. He fell in love with Judo during the 1950’s while working for the US Army in Tokyo after the war. He was also an avid film maker as he captured hours of rare footage from this time period of masters like the names above and many more.

He has now created 6 DVD’s with the promise of more to come chronicling this period 1950 to 1956 in Japanese martial arts in film.

Not only did Hal create all these DVD’s but he also added his own personal dialogue telling his little stories and anecdotes about these masters many of who were high-ranking 8^th, 9th and 10^th dans in Judo.

You will be able to see the masters performing Judo the way it was meant to be done no cheap points but full and beautiful throws, combinations chokes arm locks leg locks and just so much more you will be awe inspired we are sure.

This rare and we do mean rare footage has never been seen by the public before as Hal has had this locked up in his basement for over 50 years some of it and has just recently brought it out and shared it with the world.

As Hal says in the films he is now nearly 80 years of age and he never thought during his youth his sensei’s would ever be gone but now they are and so is their memory nearly gone but now Hal has saved them from becoming extinct and Judokas and martial artists of all disciplines can see how Kano the founder had intended Judo to be taught and practiced by his followers as these men were the direct students of Kano and it was they that were the beneficiaries of his personal dreams and teachings Hal says in the film.
