Reflexology- The Ultimate Foot Massage
Reflexology is a holistic healing modality which works on primarily on the feet. It dates back 2000-5000yrs and has its roots based in China, India and Egypt where it was used as a diagnostic aid and in treatment of certain ailments within the body. The theory behind Reflexology is that located on the feet are ‘Reflexes’ which correspond to every organ and system of the body. These ‘reflexes’ are located on highways of energy that run throughout our entire body along all of our vital organs and systems. Using massage techniques and application of pressure, Reflexology helps to stimulate nerve endings, break up toxins stored in the tissues which are known as ‘crystal deposits’, and signals to the different systems of the body to balance and normalize.
Our feet are made up of 26 bones, 33 joints and more than 100 muscles, tendons and ligaments. There are literally thousands of nerve endings in our feet which are also connected to the rest of our body. If you think about what our feet do for us each and every day, how much stress we put upon them, you can see why there are so many people with chronic foot, ankle pain. Reflexology is one way to help treat your sore and tired feet, revive them and help them to be healthy and strong for a long time.
Reflexology today is used to help a person to relax and allow their body to heal, balance and restore itself naturally. Through massage techniques, pressure points, breathing techniques, reflexology has been known to help normalize blood pressure, chemicals levels within the body, help to ease stress and anxiety, ease painful foot conditions such as Plantar Fasciitis, stimulate healthy blood circulation and so much more. Many people include regular Reflexology sessions as part of their over all body wellness regime.
Reflexology sessions are usually performed by a Certified Reflexologist. A basic health questionnaire is done at the initial visit to make sure there are no conflicting health conditions that such a treatment cannot be performed for example blood clots, certain types of cancer, athletes foot, fungal infections etc. Some sessions are done sitting in a reclining chair well others are done laying done on a massage table. Relaxing music is played, aromatherapy oils are often used to help a person to further relax. The most common reaction that someone has after a Reflexology session is that they feel very relaxed. Reflexologists are not allowed to diagnose and or treat for specific conditions. Their approach is to assist the body to reach relaxation which in turn helps most conditions and ailments.
Stress is a huge factor in most people’s daily lives. It is the number one factor in most serious health problems. Reducing our stress is the key to a long and healthy life. Reflexology can be a fundamental tool when looking for ways to manage stress and reduce it. It is more than just a foot massage,it really is the ultimate foot massage which leaves your whole body feeling wonderful.
